![]() Nothing to report GEOFF WALKER |
![]() Service number 75, which was cancelled, leaves elderly people, and the sheltered accommodation people, with a 15 minute walk to the shoping centre, or the nearest bus-stop. If the weather is against you it can be a horrendous walk, and can contribute to isolation within the residents. The maps show the route number 75 still exists, but is no longer available to the general public. This is also true of service number 37, which has been replaced over part of the route by the number 50, which no longer serves the Freeman hospital. This will have a major impact on the sick and elderly in the area, and doubles the cost of getting to hospital. The number 37 went direct to the door of the Freeeman hospital where other services leave a walk uphill and across a large car park. The cancellations also apply to the 49a, which ran evenings and sundays, and was replaced by the M72. The route was cut by appproximately half its length. A complaint was recieved by a councillor from Denton ward about the service 13, as it has been modified, and now cuts out one of the most deprived areas of the ward. This is a low car user area, and also houses some refugees in that area, who have lost their direct link into the city, the shops and support agencies. Also it cuts the links to the schools in Ladybank, giving problems to local mums and dads getting kids to school on time, and in severe weather can cause extra hassle. MIKE RILEY |
