Young Elswick Harriers making their mark
This month has proved to be one of unbroken success for PHIL HURST starting with his appearance for the North East Counties at Nottingham in the Inter Counties, and although setting his sights on a spot in the World Cross Country Championships ran creditably putting it down to experience! Phil then had a great run in the English Schools Cross Country at Loughborough missing out on a medal by a mere 9 seconds. His reward for this outstanding run was an England vest for the Home Nations Cross Country International in Wales. As Phil said he is learning all the time how to run in major races, and certainly put it into practice by finishing third in Bangor (first English finisher).
The performances over the winter by Phil reflect well on the club and its coaches, in particular MARTIN CROWE. Considering that he has only been running competitively for two years his progress has been outstanding.
Mention must also be made of the selection of three of Elswicks young women for the English Schools Cross Country Championships, so well done to CHARLOTTE SLOAN, PHILLIPA WILLIAMS and REBECCA ORAM.
