Introduction

CSV City Centre Training & Employment is based in a large, well-equipped building in the very heart of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne. We work in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, the Newcastle Employment Action Team and the Mentoring Service, to provide a range of training options that help long-term unemployed people to get back into the jobs market.

What We Offer

Currently we have three major contracts with Jobcentre Plus to deliver the following options:

  • Building Employability
This is aimed at long-term unemployed people and is designed to build up the basic skills that are needed to get a Job. As well as general sessions on confidence-building, communications skills, job-search techniques etc, the course can also include basic literacy and numeracy training, or lessons in English for speakers of other languages (ESOL). Work placements can be arranged in some cases, to enable students to practise their work skills and gain a wider understanding of the workplace environment.

  • New Deal Voluntary Sector Option
This is part of the Government's scheme for young people aged 18 to 24. We work in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, employers and voluntary organisations in Newcastle, to offer work experience and training in such diverse areas as administration, leisure, retail, animal care and community development.

  • Step 2 Success
This is an intensive, two-week training course for people who, despite having no particular training needs, have still found themselves out of work for over six months. The aim of the course is to revitalise their search for employment by creating an individual action plan, and to rekindle their enthusiasm and determination to find work by enhancing their CVs and improving their application and interview skills.
