NIWE Eating Distress Service offers:

  • A confidential telephone contact point at which people of any age can talk, perhaps for the first time, or when they are feeling distressed, about their use of food and how this makes their lives difficult. There is someone to listen and/or give information about local and national service provision for eating distress and related issues. The telephone line can also be used by supporters, both personal and professional, who are concerned about someone with an eating problem.

  • A single introductory meeting can be arranged with one of our staff to think about the issues and look at sources of help.

  • Groupwork for women (over 18). Groups are facilitated by two NIWE workers who support women in exploring their eating problems and opportunities for change. NIWE groupworkers do not give advice or tell women what to do.

  • Occassional open support sessions for women (over 18). Each session is complete in itself, supported by two NIWE workers, and provides an introduction to being part of a group looking at issues around food.

  • Training to other professionals, out of the experience of 18 years of community based service provision in the North East.
