Group Support

We offer group support in Newcastle and in other areas as funding allows. This includes some art therapy groups.

 

Newcastle Group - usually on Wednesday evenings 7 - 8.30pm for 10 weeks at a time.

 

Niwe will be holding Group Sessions in Northumberland, in 2006/07 and 2007/08. If you are interested in joining a group in Prudhoe or Morpeth would you please let us know.

Unfortunately we are only able to offer anyone a place on one group at any one time. All sessions are free of charge.


Listening Service

The telephone number for NIWE's listening / information line has changed. The listening service is available Monday to Thursday 10am until 2pm on 0191 221 0233.
There is an answering machine at other times and we will contact anyone leaving a message as soon as we can. Please let us know if it is all right to identify NIWE when we call back.

The ABC Eating Distress Raising Awareness Course

If you work with young people and feel you would like to develop awareness about young people and eating distress we can offer a one day awareness course to all workers (male/female).
You can book a place as an individual or as a team. (Cost is negotiable, depending on financial circumstances)


The course offers the opportunity to develop awareness about:
- Working with young people and eating distress
- Indicators of eating distress
- The Relationship with Food
- Young people and self esteem
- Areas of good practice
- Perceptions on Eating Distress


Teams (minimum; 5 people, maximum 10 people) can arrange a date which is convenient for them to attend the course.

Other Training Available
NIWE also offers other training to professionals.

'Sizeable Reflections'
Is a two day course on Eating Distress/Body Image/Self-esteem available to workers who have attended the ABC Eating Awareness Course or who feel that they have some awareness about eating distress.


Volunteers

 

NIWE Management Committee welcomes new members. You don't need any qualifications, anyone with an interest in eating distress would be welcome. The committee meets nine times per year at a time to suit the majority of members. Meetings last around an hour and a half.
Ex users of the NIWE service are welcome to join and we would also welcome disabled women and women from the black and ethnic minority communities who are under-represented on our committee. Women with personal or professional experience of mental health issues, counselling or psychotherapy would also be welcome.

Carers of People with Eating Distress

Carers and anyone supporting somebody with an eating problem are also welcome to telephone the listening service at the NIWE office (See above for details).
